북한 국경은 작년(2023) 하반기부터 조금씩 풀리기 시작했습니다.The North Korean border began to gradually open up from the second half of last year (2023).
하지만 외지인들의 출입은 여전히 제한적입니다. 4년가까이 조국을 못들어갔던 수많은 북한주민들이 순서를 따라 들어가는데에만 오랫 시간이 필요하리라 예상합니다. 10만에 가까운 외화벌이 노동자들은 참으로 혹독하고 힘든 시간들을 보내야만 했습니다. However, entry for foreigners remains limited. It is anticipated that many North Korean residents who have been unable to enter their homeland for nearly four years will take a long time to enter following the procedures. Workers earning nearly 100,000 foreign currencies have endured truly harsh and difficult times.
많은 안타까운 소식들을 듣습니다. 북한 내부의 여건과 사정이 얼마나 어려운지는 가늠조차 하기 어렵습니다. 다만 간절히 기도드리며 속히 외지인들에게도 국경이 열리기를 기다릴 뿐입니다. I hear many unfortunate news. It’s difficult to gauge how challenging the conditions and circumstances are within North Korea. However, I earnestly pray and hope for the borders to open soon for foreigners as well.
오랜 세월을 기다리는 가운데, 참으로 많은 일꾼(사역자)들이 어려운 일들을 겪었습니다. 모두가 마찬가지겠지만, 영육간에 지치고 힘든 여건속에서 육신의 병을 치료해야하는 분들도 적지 않았습니다. 수술을 받고 회복중인 분들도 계십니다. 기도모임등을 통해 나눈 그분들의 영육간의 완전한 회복을 위해 지속적으로 기도해주시기를! 부탁드립니다. Amidst the long wait, many workers (missionaries) have faced difficult challenges. While everyone must have experienced similar difficulties, there have been quite a few who, amidst the exhausting and difficult conditions, have had to deal with physical illnesses. Some are undergoing surgery and recovery. Let’s continue to pray persistently for their complete physical and spiritual recovery, as shared through prayer gatherings and other means! Thank you.
Post Covid 시대 – 전 세계 선교 현황에 많은 변화가 있습니다. 현실적인 변화들이 적지않으며 기존의 사역지들이 닫힌 나라/지역들 또한 적지 않습니다. 대표적인 곳이 중국입니다… 이전과 같은 외지인들의 중국선교는 이제 불가능하리라고 봅니다. 하지만 이미 충분히 세워진 현지교회와 성도들의 역량은 이미 탈중국의 선교로 뻗어나가고 있음을 봅니다. 선교사가 가는 나라에서 이제는 선교사를 파송하는 중국기독교! 이전의 우리나라와 같이, 열방선교의 귀한 자원이 되기를 응원하며 축복합니다. In the Post-Covid era, there have been significant changes in the global missionary landscape. Realistic changes are not few, and many previously accessible mission fields have closed off. One prominent example is China… It’s now perceived that missionary work by foreigners in China, as it was previously conducted, is no longer feasible. However, we see that the capabilities of the local churches and believers, already well established, are extending beyond China into missions elsewhere. Just as missionaries were sent from the countries they visited, now we see Chinese Christians sending missionaries! We support and bless this valuable resource of missions, just as other nations like South Korea have been in the past.
미국에 사는 저희에게는 다른 변화가 없습니다. 북한 국경이 열리고 미국인 북한방문 금지 행정명령이 renewal되지 않으면(8월말) 2024년 9~10월 경 방문이 가능할 것입니다. 저희 2기 leadership은 늦어도 9월경까지는 현지 방문을 하려고 계획합니다. 강 건너까지 못간다 해도, 최소한 중국에서 동역자들을 만나고 현지 사정과 여건을 살펴볼 예정입니다. 순조로이 모든 일들이 진행되기를, 함께 기도해주십시요! For us living in the United States, there aren’t any other changes. If the North Korean border opens and the executive order prohibiting Americans from visiting North Korea isn’t renewed (by the end of August), it should be possible to visit around September or October 2024. Our leadership plans to make a local visit at least until around September. Even if we can’t go across the river, we intend to meet with partners in China and assess local conditions and circumstances. Let’s pray together for the smooth progress of all these plans!
